Lyon, France, October 7, 2008--As global financial markets tanked, people gathered for a protest during the first World Day for Decent Work, which was organized by the International Trade Union Confederation.

Protests and marches were held in more than a hundred countries, from Fiji to the United States, to demand a change in the world economy that rewards the rich as regular workers see their costs rise and wages stagnate.

In addition to protests, trade union leaders met in Paris.
