Fancy some chocolate… on your skin? Then try a decadent chocolate wrap, which leaves skin feeling smooth and revitalised.

Chocolate is quite possibly the last ingredient I would consider ‘wasting'. The likes of jojoba, frankincense, chamomile, almond or lavender all seem perfectly acceptable to me in spa treatments, but when it comes to food like coconut, coffee or chocolate, I generally prefer not to have them rubbed into my skin.

So how did I find myself wrapped up like a chocolate bar in a darkened room in the lush Caribbean island of St Lucia? Because I'd opted for the signature treatment at the Tranquility Spa, St James's Club Morgan's Bay – a chocolate wrap.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't love chocolate – I do. But who wants to waste it by rubbing it on their body? I suppose that's not such a problem in St Lucia, which has an abundance of cocoa plantations.

The treatment began with a papaya sugar scrub, rough on the skin but delicately applied, removing all the dead skin cells on the surface, followed by a quick shower before the main course.

As the scent of chocolate filled the room, the warm, smooth spread was rubbed gently over my skin. Before long, I was wrapped in a plastic sheet and two sets of towels to allow the chocolate to do its magic and draw out the impurities from my skin.

Dark chocolate is said to have health benefits – it's good for the heart, protects the skin from sun damage and enhances your blood flow. Potentially this treatment means you can get all these benefits without eating it – but it's not as fun.

The chocolate is designed to feed your skin with powerful antioxidants to induce a radiant glow. It should also leave you feeling leaner and thinner with smooth, glowing skin, while the scent releases endorphins to make you ‘happy'.

It took me a while to rinse off the chocolate once I'd penguin-walked over to the shower in my plastic sheet and towels. I'm not sure it made me any leaner, but my skin did feel smooth.

It certainly did make me happy, though. Particularly when indulging in a bar of the stuff post-treatment.
