Food: Cannes
Mix with the glitterati at this month's Cannes film festival and chow down in culinary hotspots handpicked by French chef and restaurateur Arnaud Stevens
La Palme d'Or
The squid bread is outstanding at this two-Michelin-star spot, but I'll never forget the smoked sea urchin tongue, brioche and foie gras, cooked in sea salt and seasoned with citrus zest. The restaurant is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, so swing by for 'duo dinners' with a Michelin-starred chef, food and wine pairings and other exclusive culinary events. cannesmartinez.grand.hyatt.com
Le 360
There's no better spot to order a cold beer and watch the world go by than this rooftop bar at Radisson Blue Cannes. Admire views of the bay, Old Town and Esterel hills — and ogle the yacht parties below. radissonblu.com
CBEACH
Don't miss this private beach on the main boulevard, La Croisette, for some of Cannes' best beachside dining. Laid-back beats are spun on the decks while diners sip fine wine and tuck into fresh seafood. cannesbeach.eu
Forville Market
Set your alarm for an early start at this food market, close to Rue Gazagnaire, and sift through a huge variety of fruit, veg, fish and cheeses, plus amazing honeys. You'll be in good company: it's a favourite haunt of local chefs. From 7am-1pm every day except Monday.
Caprices des Mers
Head to this hideaway on Rue du Suquet for seafood classics — calamari, garlic prawns, sole meunière — that won't break the bank. The sea urchins are a standout dish. T: 00 33 4 93 39 20 34.
L'Affable
Cannes needn't be off limits for those taking it easy on the wallet. Pop into this place and order from its set menu, with classics including foie gras brioche, soup de poisson, veal and Grand Marnier soufflé. Three courses for €40 (£29). restaurant-laffable.fr
The chef
Having worked with such luminaries as Gordon Ramsay, Jason Atherton and Richard Corrigan, Arnaud now runs London's Sixtyone Restaurant — serving up French classics with top-notch English ingredients.
