Aman Tokyo

01 Aman Tokyo
A rare city hotel for the uber-luxe Aman brand, located in Otemachi near the Imperial Palace. The decor is a modern take on traditional Japanese style, and service is typically Aman — discreet, personalised and overwhelmingly detail-orientated. Plus, the 98ft pool is claimed to be Tokyo's biggest. Rooms from £468. aman.com

02 Tokyo Station Hotel
A blast from the past, this Belle Époque building was the city's original railway station hotel in 1915; it was revamped in 2012. What was once the first-class waiting room has been transformed into the lobby and rooms either face into the station or towards the Imperial Palace. Rooms from £283. slh.com thetokyostationhotel.jp

03 Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho
Part of Starwood's Luxury Collection, this plush hotel opens in July. City views are paramount as the hotel is located on the upper floors of the mixed-use skyscraper — hence the daybeds by the windows and the double-level, glass-walled bar
on the 35th floor, one of its four restaurants and bars. Rooms from £265. theluxurycollection.com

04 Palace Hotel Tokyo
A meditative haven adjacent to the Imperial Palace — it shares a moat and overlooks the peaceful gardens from its floor-to-ceiling windows — the Palace is, incredibly, the only Japanese-owned five-star hotel in the city. Extra points: it's also the only hotel in Tokyo with private balconies. Rooms from £325. palacehoteltokyo.com
