Situated in the heart of Val Gardena, the Hotel Adler Dolomiti Spa & Sport Resort is set against the most dramatic backdrop: the beautiful Dolomites of South Tyrol, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. Mixing traditional Ladin hospitality with a healthy dose of la dolce vita, the five-star retreat combines a host of sporting activities, spa therapies and wellness experiences.

The diverse spa menu ranges from ayurveda to Guinot electrical treatments and alpine facials, drawing on local products such as edelweiss, raspberry extract and red grape. One of the resort highlights is Aguana Water World, a 3,500sq m wellness area dedicated to indoor and outdoor pools, baths, saunas and relaxation areas amid the 9,000sq ft Adler Park. The park’s mountain-rimmed grounds are crisscrossed with paths for walking and hiking in the summer months, while a trio of nearby ski lifts whisk guests to the snow-blanketed peaks come winter.

Whatever the season, Val Gardena’s quintessential Alpine setting inspires a healthy lifestyle. Guests are spoilt for choice: the toughest decision anyone has to face is whether to go for a vigorous hike, mountain biking on one of the panoramic trails or Nordic walking amid the forest-cloaked hills. In winter, skiing and snowboarding are added to the itinerary, along with snowshoe walks, tobogganing and many other guided outdoor activities. Particularly popular choices are walks in Val Gardena and Alpe di Siusi, and an excursion to Dolomiti Superski, the world’s biggest interconnected ski area.

After a day on the slopes, guests can retreat to one of the hotel’s three restaurants to refuel. On the menu is a blend of healthy Mediterranean fare, traditional South Tyrol dishes and gourmet Italian cuisine, rustled up by chefs using fresh, regional produce and the latest nutritional science know-how. The hotel is the perfect place to relax, come evening, with interiors combining a palette of warm colours and locally sourced wood — cosy and inviting when the fire is lit in winter, and fresh and natural as the light floods in through the floor-length windows in spring and summer.
