Nestled in the wooded hills of Beskid Sadecki in south Poland, Hotel SPA Dr Irena Eris Krynica Zdrój offers the quintessential health resort experience — fresh alpine air, a smattering of mineral springs and pretty countryside.

With its luxurious rooms and suites, peerless service and exquisite cuisine, the cosy four-star hotel meets the needs of even the most discerning spa-goer. Each room or suite has a distinct design, creating an eclectic mix of chic, comfortable spaces to relax in, all with a balcony or terrace overlooking the mountainous landscape.

For some relaxing downtime, head to the spa, which has an all-year-round hot tub set on an outdoor terrace, two indoor whirlpool baths, plus a sauna complex — complete with dry sauna, steam bath, caldarium and tropical rain shower.

An indoor pool with floor-to-ceiling windows offers swimmers panoramic views of the snow-capped Jaworzyna. Come winter, the mountain transforms into a skiing hotspot; until then, hike or cycle along nature trails, or grab a racket and play squash or tennis at the hotel. Prefer not to leave the comfort of the indoors? There’s also a gym, cardio studio with two dedicated fitness rooms and a children’s pool.

At the Dr Irena Eris Skin Care Institute, among the many aesthetic treatments on the menu are skin-rejuvenating skin peels, microdermabrasion (a mechanical skin exfoliation) and mesotherapy, an electrical treatment where vitamins, minerals and other active ingredients are rolled into the skin.

In addition, an array of massages draw together specialist techniques, from puffiness-reducing lymphatic drainage and muscle-relaxing hot stone therapy to Massage Ma-Uri, a dance-based treatment set to Polynesian music. A skin expert is on hand to examine each client’s skin condition and to help choose the right treatment.

Come evening, linger over Polish delicacies at Domek w Dolinie, which sources only the best seasonal, local ingredients; tuck into an aromatic feast at Thai Time; or savour gourmet dishes at the Szósty Zmysł Restaurant, washed down with a glass of the finest wine.
