On the southern coast of Istria, Park Plaza Histria Pula sits at the tip of the Verudela peninsula, offering views out across the Adriatic Sea. Guests are just steps from the beaches and rocky coastline, while the city centre is within walking distance, as is the Brijuni National Park, a smattering of small islands jutting out of the water.

The resort prides itself on offering state-of-the-art facilities in a relaxed environment: guests can unwind by the indoor or outdoor seawater pool, make use of the nearby sports centre in Verudela or take up personalised fitness training at the Comfort Zone SPAce. After a strenuous workout here, turn the heat up on aching muscles in the Finnish sauna or steam bath.

Designed and developed by a team of scientists, the spa offers a variety of wellness journeys and therapies, taking inspiration from the Mediterranean. Istrian Wine Therapy, for example, uses grapes from local vineyards to tone and revitalise skin, while Istrian Truffle Dreams is a facial that uses truffle extract to oxygenate and brighten the face. For more conventional radiance-boosting options, there’s everything from an intense cleanse to deep hydration, and antioxidant vitamin and lifting anti-ageing options.

An array of body treatments hone in on specific concerns: detox, slimming and toning, restoring skin elasticity and firmness, or blitzing cellulite. What’s more, nature-inspired organic rituals mix elements and techniques, with many tailored to ease stress caused by hectic modern lifestyles or to rebalance energy — a facial followed by a full-body massage using essential oils, for instance, or a combination of body wrap, green clay mask and full-body aromatherapy.

Featuring a modern design, each of the 368 guest rooms opens onto a private balcony, many with sea views. There’s a range of restaurants and bars — the main eatery serves locally sourced produce, with an emphasis on healthy, fresh cuisine. Elsewhere, diners can try Istrian dishes at Palm’s Champagne Bar, washed down with a selection of bubbly from around the world, while a colourful array of cocktails are concocted by the award-winning staff at Luna’s Lounge & Bar.
