Atop a hill of the same name, Resort Collina d’Oro commands panoramic views of Ticino, Switzerland’s most southern canton, a beautiful landscape framed by mountains and dotted with sparkling lakes and historical towns.

Overlooking Lake Lugano and the Alps, the coral-pink resort stands out amid the undulating green peaks, its hilltop aspect the perfect spot to take in the fresh air. Inside, guests can choose from 16 double rooms or one of 30 suites, each a cool, contemporary space, with a nod to the classic architecture of the historic building.

As a resort that benefits greatly from its natural, invigorating location, it’s only fitting that the spa at Resort Collina d’Oro maximises on this unique appeal. The outdoor pool is set against a dramatic mountainous backdrop, while a glass-clad
indoor option offers all of the views come winter — minus the chill. A Turkish bath, Kneipp path and Finnish sauna also await guests at the 1,000sq metre spa, along with a wide range of professional therapies, from Cellcosmet facials, radiofrequency and oxygen therapy to body massages, mud treatments and hydrotherapy. One highlight is floatation therapy in the Epsom-salt pool, known for its therapeutic and regenerative benefits.

Gym bunnies are also spoilt for choice: a trio of fitness tests hone in on body composition, posture and metabolism to help address any personal goals, while personal trainers are on hand in the exercise centre to help make those aims a reality.

Fresh, healthy food is the focus at the hotel restaurant, where innovative chefs plate up Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. Vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are also well covered. Many ingredients come within striking distance of the resort, including seasonal vegetables from the organic kitchen-garden in the surrounding park and red grapes from the hotel vineyard for the eponymous house red wine.

Switzerland’s Italian-speaking region has plenty to offer visitors: watch the world go by from a cafe in Lugano, a charming lakeside city whose cosmopolitan, classy vibe wouldn’t look out of place on the French Riviera.
