Set against the serene backdrop of the Cederberg mountain range in the Western Cape, Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve is a peaceful nature escape situated a three-and-a-half hour drive from Cape Town or reachable via a private airstrip. Here, guests can enjoy tranquil landscapes and Karoo-like wilderness, and take time to watch the many creatures that freely roam the surroundings.

The vibrantly hued Kamma Nature Reserve is a true natural wonder, with peculiar rock formations a striking feature of the landscape. Through the many ancient rock art sites found on the reserve, visitors can learn about the rich history of the San and the Khoi people.

This ancient culture and beautiful landscape inspired the design of the unique Kagga Kamma property. Five spacious thatched Hut Suites represent the dwellings of the ancient Khoi people, while 10 Cave Suites integrate man-made materials with natural sandstone formations. The open-air rooms — the Star Suite and Outcrop Room — are available in the warmer months, offering guests a secluded under-the-stars adventure. Visitors can also look into camping options, and conference facilities are available.

Guests can explore the surroundings with a host of activities, including nature drives, rock art tours, stargazing, hiking and quad bike safaris. Kagga Kamma is the ideal destination for nature- and culture-loving travellers — although there are plenty of opportunities for relaxation, too. The outdoor boma (shelter), swimming pool, a la carte restaurant and bar area are perfect for whiling away a lazy day. And for those looking for something a little more indulgent, the spa specialises in TheraNaka massages, as well as TheraVine facials and deluxe mani-pedis.

A stay at Kagga Kamma offers the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. Due to the resort’s remote location, network services are relatively limited — meaning no telephone, internet or mobile phone reception (although the conference facilities include wi-fi). The absence of light pollution guarantees clear night skies, making Kagga Kamma the perfect destination to admire the star-filled African skies.
