Set in Madikwe Game Reserve — just four hours from Johannesburg and bordering Botswana in the North West province of South Africa — a traditional welcome awaits at Rhulani Safari Lodge. Rhulani means ‘relax’ in the local language, so the emphasis is on sitting back, unwinding and enjoying the African bush.

Rhulani was designed to blend into its surroundings as much as possible — and, set along a crest, it commands stunning vistas of Madikwe Game Reserve. Early-morning and late-afternoon game drives offer the chance to view a wide variety of wildlife in a malaria-free environment, including the legendary Big Five and approximately 350 species of bird. In addition to a thrilling safari experience during the day, guests can enjoy a spectacular sunset with a sundowner before returning to the lodge in the dark.

The seven chalets and one luxury family suite are all air-conditioned for warm summer evenings and feature a Morso stove fireplace for cool winter nights. The en suite bathrooms have an oval bath and twin basins, as well as indoor and outdoor showers. Each lodge also has its own private plunge pool.

Guests can be pampered with a massage in the privacy of their room or enjoy a cocktail around the swimming pool that overlooks the reserve, enjoying the warmth of the African sun.

Visitors can enjoy the dining experience under the magnificent African night sky, while being warmed by a roaring fire. For special occasions, guests can enjoy a romantic dinner on their chalet’s private deck. The traditional cuisine is complemented by a selection of world-class South African wines.

A lesson in the solar system from one of the camp’s experts offers a perfect end to the day. With no light pollution for miles around, shooting stars are easy to spot, and the sky — peppered with its multitude of stars — glistens enchantingly.

The luxury lodge boasts all the services and amenities of a five-star hotel. Rhulani has built a modern-day refuge — a place to nourish the soul and lift the spirit — where travellers can experience the serenity and harmony of this special place.
