Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, outside Cape Town, and sister property Jock Safari Lodge, in the Kruger National Park — both part of the Caleo Foundation — offer guests two unique safari experiences to explore in South Africa.

The Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is in the heart of the Little Karoo, a three-hour drive from Cape Town and regarded as the Western Cape’s premier wildlife destination. At the foot of the Warmwaterberg Mountains, malaria-free Sanbona boasts sculpted Cape Fold Mountains, wide-open Karoo plains and rare examples of San rock art, some dating back more than 3,500 years.

The 133,500 acres of landscape and the boundless plains make safaris at Sanbona a unique experience. Guests can enjoy five-star accommodation at three well-appointed luxury lodges — Dwyka Tented Lodge, Tilney Manor and Gondwana Lodge — or opt to stay at the seasonal Sanbona Explorer Camp. Younger guests can enjoy the Kids on Safari programme, learning about wildlife and conservation, while adults can relax with a choice of relaxation retreat therapies.

The family-friendly, five-star Jock Safari Lodge lies in the heart of the Kruger National Park, within 15,000 acres of natural landscape. The lodge offers Big Five game-viewing, enhanced by its exclusive riverbed traversing rights. Guests can relive the legend of Jock of the Bushveld and choose from a number of activities on offer, including game drives, nature walks, birdwatching and golf. After an active day, the Relaxation Retreat promises total rejuvenation. The Kids on Safari programme takes younger visitors on an educational conservation journey into the heart of the Kruger bush.

The lodge comprises two beautifully appointed lodges: Jock Main Lodge and Fitzpatrick’s at Jock. Trees and reed walls screen the Jock Main Lodge, while the 12 individual thatched rooms are cool and calming. Guests can sleep al fresco on their private deck, immersed in nature.

Fitzpatrick’s Lodge offers personal service in an intimate atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for small parties and families looking for privacy. For family vacations and honeymooners, both resorts offer an ideal retreat.
