Have you ever arrived somewhere new, a little nervous about navigating the city? Or maybe you’ve travelled to the French capital a dozen times, but you’d still appreciate a helping hand at the airport? Someone to take the work out of the travel experience and share some tips for a successful Paris sojourn?

The AmericanConcierge.com story began around six years ago when New Yorker Sharon Carr found herself in this exact situation. A fan of ‘home exchange’, Sharon was lucky enough to have a set of keys to a pied-á-terre in Paris’ leafy, familyfriendly 19th arrondissement; but she needed some local advice. Fortunately, an American expat friend stepped up to the plate and helped Sharon get the most out of her holiday.

And thus the idea for a new business, AmericanConcierge.com, was born. Sharon realised there was a void in a city so popular among tourists. More and more travellers are seeking unique experiences, often opting to stay in apartments, but they don’t necessarily have the benefit of a concierge. Sharon also realised her new start-up business was a way to give back to the community — creating jobs for her knowledgeable, helpful expat friends and licensed guides in Paris.

AmericanConcierge.com has a unique approach to creating custom itineraries. Sharon and her team will ask a few questions to learn about travellers’ hobbies and interests — then the team will create a bespoke itinerary with personalised suggestions for their Paris trip.

Popular tours from the company take in hotspots such as Notre-Dame Cathedral, Montmartre and the Palace of Versailles, while there are also more unusual experiences on offer, like a day examining the life of Coco Chanel, an architectural tour of the angels of Paris or a private walk through the Catacombs.

AmericanConcierge.com also offers excursions to other parts of France, including Normandy, for a Band of Brothers tour, as well as trips to Burgundy and Champagne to visit vineyards and learn all about the different types of wine and champagne made there.
