Introducing Come from Away – a new musical for London

Discover the remarkable true story of a small town that welcomed the worldThursday, 28 February 2019

As it continues its sold-out, record-breaking run on New York’s Broadway and in Canada, Come from Away has landed for its UK premiere at London’s Phoenix Theatre.

This joyous new musical shares the incredible real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives.

“This is a universal story. It’s a story about a small town helping the world and we can’t wait to share it with you all.”  Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the writers of Come from Away. To create the musical, Sankoff and Hein went right to the source, travelling to Newfoundland for the 10th anniversary commemoration of that fateful week. They collected hundreds of hours of interviews which have now been distilled into the 100-minute show. We spoke to some of those native Newfoundlanders and the Come From Awayers involved in that process about those five incredible days, and how it has affected their outlook on the world, travel and engaging with other cultures.
