Discover the Amazing Story of Pioneering Chimpanzee Researcher Jane Goodall
A new cinema-release documentary, JANE, tells the astonishing story of the trailblazing British researcher.

The career of naturalist and chimpanzee specialist Jane Goodall is one of the most inspiring and intriguing stories of 20th century research.
Passionate about animals from a young age, Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall was determined to study chimpanzees in Africa. She worked as a waitress to raise the funds for her travel to Kenya, sought the support of famous paleontologist Louis Leakey in Nairobi, and then headed to Tanzania to conduct fieldwork.
She became famous when Miss Goodall and the Wild Chimpanzees, produced by National Geographic, came out in 1965. An estimated 25 million people in the USA alone tuned in to watch the programme. It was a ground-breaking film, at a time when women were typically discouraged from pursuing careers in science.
The new documentary, JANE, draws on over 100 hours of never-before-seen footage that has been tucked away in the National Geographic archives for over 50 years. It tells the story of Jane, a woman whose chimpanzee research challenged the male-dominated scientific consensus of her time and revolutionised our understanding of the natural world.
Set to a rich orchestral score from legendary composer Philip Glass, the film offers an unprecedented, intimate portrait of Jane Goodall — a trailblazer who defied the odds to become one of the world’s most admired conservationists.
JANE will have a cinema release in the UK, starting tomorrow. For more details on screenings, see below, or book tickets here.
