By Entumoto Safari Camp

Entumoto is a private tented safari camp high in the Siana hills that commands breathtaking views over the plains of the Maasai Mara. The camp has a vast private conservancy with direct access into the Mara. With no fences between the park and the conservancy, Entumoto offers intimate and exclusive interactions with wildlife. It’s a wildlife haven with a resident pride of lions and many herds of elephants. The highlight is a marsh area called Eden, which is frequented by giraffe, elephant, buffalo, lion and more.

Entumoto prides itself on providing private game viewing within the conservancy as well as the magnificent and dramatic scenes of the Maasai Mara. The camp’s high-quality guides, coupled with authentic open top safari jeeps, provide guests with memorable safaris into the reserve as well as unique activities such as night drives and walking safaris. The camp has two tiers of accommodation split into Entumoto Main and Entumoto Toto. All the tents are made of multilayered canvas, are custom designed and set about 300ft apart. Each has its own veranda where guests can enjoy a morning coffee and keep an eye out for elephants coming through the camp.

Ecotourism is an essential part of Entumoto’s identity. It’s solar powered and has its own abundant vegetable garden. Every meal is largely made up of the site’s freshly grown produce. Meals can be tailored to any dietary request or desires — whether that’s a three-course meal in the conservancy, or a bush breakfast in the Mara.

The formation of Entumoto’s private conservancy has relied heavily on a healthy relationship with the local Maasai communities. Conservation is at the forefront of everything Entumoto does and the coexistence of the wildlife and the community is a critical aspect of this. Most profits go back into the community and to those Maasai’s who have a shared interest in the land. The camp is led and run by staff from the local area so the Entumoto jeep is always warmly welcomed in the community. Community engagement in ecotourism and conservation is vital for the survival of Maasai culture.
