By Bumi Hills Safari Lodge

Bumi Hills Safari Lodge bursts with character and contemporary African charm. This remote and intimate lodge sits above the iconic Lake Kariba with the Zambezi Escarpment as its backdrop.

Bumi Hills is widely revered as having the best panoramic view of the world’s fourth-largest man-made lake — Lake Kariba, located just over 800 miles upstream from the Indian Ocean and forms the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The lake itself stretches 139 miles long and 25 miles wide and has a multitude of unique ecosystems that are part of Matusadona National Park. The park was proclaimed a non-hunting area in 1958 and as such is wonderfully rich in wildlife and vegetation. With the plentiful water supply and regenerative grasses, wildlife has thrived.

The sparkling shores of Lake Kariba, often attract large herds of buffalo and elephant who frequently take to the water to drink, bathe and cool off. Guests are afforded the opportunity to enjoy these sightings from a unique position on the water. Hippo are plentiful and the lake itself is teeming with huge Nile crocodiles. Meanwhile, birdlife thrives here, too, and there’s a particularly large population of African fish eagles. Game fishing is an additional attraction and guests are encouraged to try their luck at catching a tigerfish.

Bumi Hills has 10 lakeview rooms and two premium suites, all furnished and styled with contemporary minimalism and African fusion. The rooms overlook the lake and game-rich shoreline below. The main area of the lodge, which surrounds the infinity pool, is designed to give the feeling of a beach retreat, combining serenity with style. The bar and dining deck, situated on a ridge below the pool, offer an uninterrupted view of the land beyond as well as the ever-changing pink skies and sunsets that Lake Kariba is so famous for. The spa and gym at the lodge provide a place for guests to relax and rejuvenate.

Bumi Hills Safari Lodge offers guests a multitude of ways to explore the surroundings. There are game drives and boating safaris, fishing and walking safaris, sunset cruises and visits to the local Tonga tribe at a nearby village. Bumi Hills is the perfect place to connect with Africa.
