Namiri Plains Reimagined

Namiri Plains will be relaunched later this year. The new camp features revamped and upgraded accommodation while still embodying the same exceptional safari experience, providing the finest guides and welcoming staff that guests have come to love.

The camp is located within Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, tucked away in the park’s eastern region. Travellers who seek an uncrowded experience will cherish the feeling of having these plains all to themselves.

The new Namiri Plains boasts substantially larger rooms, which feature sliding doors that open onto a full-length deck, providing uninterrupted views of the seasonal riverbed that runs past the camp. The region is known for its iconic landscapes and is rich in archaeological history. The walls of Namiri Plains are made from the white/grey calcrete rock that’s found in this region, which is not only aesthetically appealing but also helps regulate temperatures in the suites. These rocks are sourced directly from the area and are full of history — some even contain fragments of fossils that were formed millions of years ago.

This calcrete rock is unique to the area, formed from the volcanic ashes of the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano. Located close to the Ngorongoro Crater, Ol Doinyo is the only active volcano that ejects distinct carbonatite ash, which turns white when exposed to the atmosphere. This hardens over time to form an impenetrable layer which inhibits the growth of trees and shrubs, giving rise to the characteristic grassy plains of the Eastern Serengeti. These short grasslands surround Namiri Plains and are famous for their lion and cheetah populations that use the grass as cover while they stalk their prey, making this the ideal safari destination for any big cat lover.

Namiri Plains has a serene pool and deck area, a spa for some added indulgence, and an information centre which offers a look into the wildlife and rich natural history of the region. Visit this incredible corner of the Serengeti for unrivalled sightings of apex predators, and an exceptional in-camp experience.

DON'T MISS

Namiri Plains offers unrivalled sightings of big cats — for 20 years, the grasslands were closed off to protect and boost feline populations
