The beauty of Tanzania is astounding; it’s a place with everything from volcanic craters and baobab forests to grasslands decorated with majestic kopjes. For a taste of the best that Tanzania has to offer, travellers could follow the beloved Northern Tanzania loop, taking in Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti.

Adorned with ancient baobab and acacia trees, Tarangire National Park is a lesser-known hideaway. While the Serengeti has attained iconic status for its wildebeest and big cats, Tarangire entices with its smaller mammals — although the rumbling crescendo of elephant herds is never far away. Visitors will find Nimali Tarangire tucked away in a private concession, a six-tent camp that focuses on the joy of getting back to nature with its solar power and al fresco dining areas.

There is a mystic ambience to Ngorongoro Crater. In one sweeping view, guests can see buffalos, hyenas, zebras and flamingos, as well as lions lazing on sun-dappled kopjes. The early-morning light is the most magical time, and Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp offers early admission to the crater, giving visitors a secluded moment to take it all in. Afterwards, guests can retreat to cosy tents, complete with hot water bottles and gas heaters for those colder nights.

A trip to Serengeti National Park’s burnt yellow savannah is a must. It’s the classic African experience, and the backdrop to the impressive wildebeest migration, which sees 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras and 350,000 gazelles congregate to follow the rainfall. Never-ending plains offer experiences such as bush picnics and sunset balloon safaris. Nimali Central Serengeti boasts quintessential safari vibes with its traditional tents, while rich Persian carpets and large verandas add a touch of luxury.

Visitors can top off a memorable safari trip with a relaxing island escape. Just off the coast of Tanzania, the small island of Zanzibar paints the perfect backdrop. The historic architecture of Stone Town offers a touch of culture, and boutique hotels promise seclusion. A stay at the luxurious Residence Zanzibar Hotel promises sophistication and guests’ own personal butler.
