Denali National Park, United States: Encompassing six million acres, Alaska’s Denali National Park is a true wilderness accessible by a single, 92-mile ribbon of road. It’s named for North America’s highest peak, and known for an incredible array of plants and wildlife, including caribou and grizzly bears. It’s also one of the best places in the U.S. to watch the aurora borealis.
Southeastern Utah’s Bears Ears National Monument is named after twin buttes sacred to the region’s Native American tribes. These fractured lands, where ranchers have been grazing herds of cattle for generations, are the subject of a recent dispute over policies establishing the extent and use of public land.
One treasure still inside Utah's Bears Ears monument is Procession Panel, a nearly 7-metre-long rock carving, or petroglyph, on Comb Ridge. At least 1,000 years old, it depicts a ceremonial gathering of some 190 human-like forms converging from four directions. A succession of prehistoric cultures occupied the mesas and canyons of southern Utah for more than 12,000 years.
