Anthony Lau
During a short stay in Amsterdam, Lau took himself on a photo tour of the city—one of the best ways to explore. "I was only able to tour the city for a few hours. Fortunately, I arrived the city under great weather, and thus enabled me to capture the composition I wanted."
Since winning, Lau has begun leading photo workshops and tours in Hong Kong, including coaching photographers on how to photograph the chaotic and beautiful Fire Dragon Dance celebrations in Hong Kong.
A polar bear mother and cub brace against bitter cold near Hudson Bay, Canada. Lau and fellow travelers at the Seal River Heritage Lodge quietly captured the intimate moment.
Lau won grand prize and a trip with National Geographic Expeditions to Churchill, Manitoba, famous for polar bears. During his visit, Lau was also mesmerised by other wildlife, including this arctic fox.
The winter in Inner Mongolia is very unforgiving. At a freezing temperature of minus 20 and lower, with a constant breeze of snow from all directions, it was pretty hard to convince myself to get out of the car and take photos. I saw horsemen showing off their skills and commanding the steed from a distance. I quickly grabbed my telephoto lens and captured the moment when one of the horsemen charged out from the morning mist," says Lau.
