Wild African elephants are sold to zoos around the world. On August 27, a majority of the 183 members of the international treaty that regulates the global wildlife trade concluded that continuing this practice is unacceptable. Many elephant experts decry forcibly taking these intelligent, sensitive, social animals away from their herds.
