Some astronomers believe an undiscovered planet, some six times the mass of Earth, is lurking in the outer reaches of the solar system.
Since early 2019, NASA's Insight lander's seismometer has been collecting data crucial to understand Mars's internal structure. Thanks to InSight, scientists have determined the size of the planet's core, as well as other traits of its crust and mantle.
Onboard cameras captured pictures and video of the Perseverance rover's successful landing. Tethered to the sky crane, the rover is seen here a few metres away from a gentle touchdown.
A colour-composite image shows the NGC 300 galaxy, a spiral galaxy like the Milky Way located about seven million light-years from Earth. In this image, young, hot stars are the blue dots that comprise much of the outer arms. Older stars are in the middle and appear yellow-green.

An illustration shows a hot Jupiter, a type of planet that is about the same size as our solar system's largest world but is bizarrely close to its host star.
The LIGO detectors use lasers and precisely aligned mirrors to detect the minuscule movements caused by gravitational waves.
