Helena Sigman
A babe in arms in 1935, Helena and her mother, Galina Vorobiova, pose for a portrait during the sunny times before World War II.
“Papa was the family photographer,” says Helena, whose father noted, on the back of this photograph, the month and year it was taken: July ’39. There are no photographs of the family during the war years.
Helena and her mother cool off in the Dnieper River in July 1937.
Helena and her parents in Plyuti in 1938. At that time it was customary to crop children’s hair in summer to avoid lice.
