Lindokuhle Sobekwa

"Nature is a complicated term when it comes to Johannesburg," says photographer Lindokuhle Sobekwa, explaining that people in the townships often don't have enough room for gardens. "Growing up, there were always some flowers that grew near a dumping site that we used to pick and play with."

Thokoza, South Africa: Even during the pandemic lockdown, "this view is literally the only truly quiet place you'll find in the township," says photographer Lindokuhle Sobekwa. "It is also where my father is laid to rest."
Thokoza, South Africa: "We have been having a lot of power cuts," says photographer Lindokuhle Sobekwa, "which has made it difficult for most people to social distance without electricity." These municipal workers are repairing a faulty cable.
