"I was fortunate to get close to this curious pair to capture the shot," says photographer Mitch Walter. "With no one else around to watch these birds with me, it truly felt like a magical moment between the owl pair and me."

A great blue heron in Destin, Florida, prepares to swallow its catch whole. “This guy spent several minutes playing with his catch before finally having it for dinner,” says photographer Susan Cramer Stein. “I couldn't believe he was actually capable of swallowing the entire fish.”
