Palaeontologist Ralf Nielbock looks up from the “skylight” entrance of Unicorn Cave, a collapsed feature that floods with sunlight in the summer months when the sun is at its highest point. The cave is part of Germany’s largest UNESCO Geopark, located in the lush Harz mountains.
