A pair of red-crowned cranes participate in a courtship ritual in Hokkaido, Japan. It's said that the birds mate for life, and as such they serve as a symbol of luck and longevity in Japanese culture.
“Capturing images of wild creatures at a very short distance is always an interest to me,” writes Your Shot photographer Shan W. “Because I like to see their expressions, make eye contact with them, and try to have a better understanding of the wildlife.”
A toucan attempts to take a bite out of the camera lens. A toucan's diet is largely made up of fruit and the long beak allows it to reach more fruit while staying in one spot.
