This family's parents emigrated to Ulaanbaatar from the countryside to find work. “It’s impossible to live as a herder,” says Erkhembayar. “Our children have to be in school. That’s difficult when you move from place to place.” Around a fifth of Mongolia’s population has moved to Ulaanbaatar in the past three decades, doubling the city’s population. The rapid increase has put pressure on infrastructure.
