James Smart,
National Geographic Photo ContestDuring a trip to Australia’s Fraser Island, Smart shot this aerial image of the Coral Sea just off the coast.
Sea turtles are seen swimming near Lady Elliot Island on a clear, autumn morning.
After winning, Smart travelled through Australia, including to Victoria to photograph the iconic, salty, Tyrrell Lake.
More recently, Smart has begun to focus on underwater photography, including photographing this humpback whale in Hervey Bay, Austraila. "Hopefully I'll be able to visit Western Australia and swim with whale sharks next year. I'm also looking to head to Palau in 2019 to capture some stunning imagery of the region," says Smart.
