Your best photos of the week

Each week, our editors choose stunning photos submitted by members of Your Shot, National Geographic's photo community. Saturday, 29 December

By Kristen McNicholas

My intention with this weekly series is to be a round-up of photographs that highlight the creativity and talent that is fostered within our photo community. We have photographers from 195 countries spanning every style of photography from documentary to nature to conceptual and everything in between. The range of photography is what makes Your Shot so incredibly special, in my humblest, completely unbiased opinion.

As 2018 ends, I look back at how this series started from the ground up on the Your Shot blog in April. Our team had no idea what this series might become but I’m happy to see how far it has come and look forward to how it will continue to grow. I love that this series gives the Your Shot community another opportunity for their work to be recognised along our assignments and Daily Dozen.

I want to dedicate the last Photos of the Week series of 2018 to you: the community who keeps us going. By participating in our assignments, supporting fellow community members, leaving constructive feedback to all skill levels and learning with us every day makes the Your Shot photo community one of the coolest on the internet. We’re proud to be here for you all. Thank you for sharing your photos with us everyday.

A note before we sign off, the next series will publish on January 11, 2019. Warmest wishes for the New Year and we’ll see you in 2019!

Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas looks at daily uploads from Your Shot, starting each day by sifting thousands of photographs. This series is a selection of her favorites from the past week.
