"Martin's Beach, a crescent-shaped cove on the San Mateo coast in California, has recently been made accessible to the public after court battles to keep the beach private have been settled," writes Your Shot photographer Karen Baas. "After finding the composition, it was just a matter of time before the winter sky put on its show. Just a little bit of patience and timing was required to capture the lines of the retreating sea."

"My daughter is happiest when she is exploring in wide open spaces, and we have plenty of favourite places to explore in North Dakota," writes Your Shot photographer Lyra Lee. "This was taken one warm winter afternoon on a ridge at a nearby golf course. We had just explored an arboretum adjacent to the golf course and my daughter made her way up this ridge proudly carrying a cattail stalk. A small private plane flew over, and she looked up at just the right moment."
