Terrifying pictures show chaos as mob storms U.S. Capitol

On Wednesday afternoon, a group of supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C., forcing lawmakers into hiding during the certification of the 2020 election results.

A mob carrying Trump flags and banners stormed through the doors of the U.S. Capitol, swiftly breaching the security perimeter.
Trump supporters forced their way past barricades and entered the Senate chamber and offices of lawmakers. Police placed the building under lockdown.

As supporters of President Trump forcefully entered the Capitol, lawmakers and staffers in the House gallery took cover on the floor inside their locked chamber, donned gas masks, and then evacuated to an undisclosed secure location.
U.S. Capitol Police detained rioters outside of the House Chamber. One woman was reportedly shot by police inside the Capitol.
