Finca Can Martí

In 1992, Peter and Isabelle Brantschen came across a typical Ibicencan finca located in the preserved north of the island. They immediately fell in love with its authenticity, character and location. After purchasing the property, they began renovating the 400-year-old finca room after room using only bio-construction materials to restore it to its original appearance.

Finca Can Martí opened in 1994 as one of Ibiza’s very first ‘agroturismos’ and has been an authority on organic and permacultural farming ever since. From the very beginning the hotel was run according to ecological principles. Most of the electricity used onsite is produced by solar panels, laundry products are ecological, rainwater is collected for irrigation, and all water used in the hotel is recycled for irrigation and cleaning.

The agroturismo is tucked away in a green valley compound of 45 acres of terraces with authentic stonewalls, lush gardens, fruit and olive trees, and pine forest. The grounds are kept tidy with the help of five friendly donkeys and the chickens supply delicious free-range eggs to the farm. The large vegetable garden provides fresh, seasonal produce for the completely organic breakfast — farm to table at its best! Finca Can Martí offers a wide range of massages and treatments that can be combined with a relaxing Moroccan hammam session or a swim in the natural pool. Yoga classes are offered on the yoga deck, and bicycles are available to guests.

Finca Can Martí is only a 10-minute walk away from the authentic village of San Juan, which offers  a selection of restaurants varying from contemporary cuisine to traditional food. The village is also home to a market — the Mercadillo de San Juan — organised every Sunday, with homemade food local coffee and kombucha, handmade clothes and jewellery, as well as live music.

The nearest beaches are a five-minute drive from the hotel, but could easily be reached by bicycle or on foot via a beautiful walk along traditional countryside roads. The north of Ibiza is the ideal base from which to discover the stunning Ibicencan coastline, the old town of Ibiza or Formentera’s white, sandy beaches.
