EKHO Lakehouse

On arrival at EKHO Lake House, situated on the banks of one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the world, Lake Bund, guests are received in typical Sri Lankan style and escorted to the main lobby. Refreshing welcome drinks and cold towels are served before guests are taken to their rooms.

The resort has nine superior rooms, four deluxe rooms and a royal suite — this is where Queen Elizabeth II stayed during her visit. The rooms have a contemporary touch and most of them face outwards through a verandah towards the lake. A few steps down will take guests to a well-designed pool just atop the lake — the perfect spot in which to cool off after an excursion or a walk.

The hotel’s chefs have taken care to plan menus that offer simplicity, whether guests eat in the dining hall or opt for a private dining experience.

The restaurant offers uninterrupted panoramic views of the lake. Since Polonnaruwa enjoys tropical and dry weather most of the year, with June to August being a period of rainfall and high humidity, the outside areas are popular spaces in which to relax.

Time stands still at EKHO Lake House and guests may eat when they like. An extensive a la carte menu includes a choice of seafood, meat and fish with catch-of-the-day specials.

Guests may enjoy a private dining experience on the deck. From the gangway to the restaurant, see the blue waters of the lake as you’re escorted to your tables — with a choice of sitting on the deck in the sun during the day and counting stars at night. The quality of the restaurant is reflected in the layout of the tables and the attention to personalised service from the staff.

The unique experiences around EKHO Lake House include Minneriya National Park, Sigiriya rock fortress, the cave temple in Dammbulla, the National Museum of Polonnaruwa and a walk along Lake Bund at sunset.

Enjoy the laid-back life and the slow pace of things. Unwind, sunbathe or find time to explore some of the finest this island nation has to offer.

EKHO Lake House is situated right next to the Polannaruwa Ruins an Ancient City of Polannaruwa a NESCO World Heritage Centre.
