Akasha Wellness Retreat is situated at an altitude of 3,280ft in the heart of Piatra Craiului National Park, right in the centre of the small mountain village of Pestera.

Surrounded by rolling hills and forests, this small, family-owned retreat aims to promote a new type of holiday, where everything is centred around healthy living. Clean air, water from the local well and home-cooked meals are all essential to the calm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to reconnect with nature, experience the healing powers of trees and natural aromatherapy. Relaxation methods, such as forest bathing, mindfulness meditation and yoga, promote mental and physical health.

Guests can be immersed in local culture and take a step back in time when exploring the unspoilt landscape. With more than 10 orchid species and 42 species of butterflies, there’s no shortage of natural treasures to discover.

Cows, dogs and sheep, as well as friendly locals can be found at every turn and you can even see the occasional horse-drawn carriage. Panoramic views of the Carpathian Mountains can be enjoyed from the terrace, from the beautifully decorated rooms or even from the outdoor wooden hot tub or Swedish dry infrared sauna.

Each day consists of three hours of yoga taught by experienced resident teachers, three delicious plant-based meals, group activities and free time for guests to pamper themselves in the spa or simply unwind in the communal area.

The spa offers bath rituals that use essential oils, herbal teas and infused bath salts that help relax the mind and soothe muscles, as well as a number of different massages including the popular hot stone and Swedish massages.

Food is an integral part of the experience at Akasha and menus are carefully designed to be both varied and exciting as well as nutritionally balanced. Dishes are seasonal and 90% of ingredients used are local and organic.

Close by in the village of Bran is the well-known Bran Castle — also known as Dracula’s Castle — as well as many other culturally rich destinations to which visits can be easily arranged.
