Standing on the site of the former Cotton Textile Foundation headquarters, the Cotton House Hotel is a 19th-century neoclassical building and a landmark of Barcelona.

Built when the textile industry was at its height, it was sold in the middle of the 20th century to the Cotton Producers Guild. The guild then established its headquarters there, housing cotton-producing services.

Finally, at the initiative of a group of hotel promoters in Barcelona, the building was transformed, eventually opening in January 2015 as the beautiful Cotton House Hotel. Great care has been taken to maintain and recover all the original elements of the neoclassical building — the imposing marble staircase, delicate parquet and boiserie embellished ceilings, floors and walls in some of the rooms, to name just a few, as well as the famous spiral staircase built in 1957.

Acclaimed interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán was commissioned to oversee the renovation and has succeeded in establishing a contemporary and sophisticated style throughout, which ticks all the boxes of a first-class hotel — with first-class luxury, level of service and comfort that guests expect.

The Cotton House Hotel also offers guests a range of experiences, including getting a custom-made, 100% cotton, tailored shirt created by expert tailors from Santa Eulalia. Guests are offered a glass of cava before being measured up; once the shirt has been made a week or two later, it’s shipped to their home address.

Guests can also join in one of the hotel’s Cotton Evenings — a series of talks hosted in the hotel library featuring different personalities and experts from the worlds of fashion, art, music and architecture. Talks usually take place twice a month, and while entry is free, guests simply need to sign up to a guestlist, and can enjoy a complementary drink after the event.

Another must-do when staying at the Cotton House Hotel is a rummage through La Algodonera Market. This open-air market is held on the hotel terrace every Saturday, showcasing a whole host of local cosmetic, fashion and jewellery brands alongside a lively gastronomic offering.
