Valletta, Malta’s capital, is a living, working city, the administrative and commercial heart of the islands. Valletta is named after its founder, the respected Grand Master of the Order of St John, Jean Parisot de la Valette. Started in 1566, Valletta was completed, with its impressive bastions, forts and cathedral, in the astonishingly short time of 15 years, even more remarkable considering mechanical tools didn’t exist at the time and the whole city was built entirely by hand.

Just a short distance from all the action is the recently refurbished Hilton Malta, overlooking the Portomaso Yacht Marina in St Julian’s, with its waterfront restaurants and shops. Life moves at a slower pace in this luxurious spot, just walking distance from Paceville and St Julian’s Bay. Rooms and suites are decorated in a simple, modern Mediterranean style, with some enjoying balconies overlooking the marina and the azure waters.

A Mediterranean buffet is served at night in the Oceana Restaurant. Thai delicacies are dished up in the award-winning Blue Elephant Restaurant, styled to resemble a traditional Thai village, complete with waterfalls and greenery. In summer, guests can dine on the terrace at Merkanti Beach Club Restaurant, steps from the beach. Cocktails are served in the nautical-themed Quarterdeck Bar, with sea views at Aqua Bar. Elsewhere, the sea-view Vista Lobby Lounge is perfect for afternoon tea.

Four outdoor swimming pools, including two paddling pools, let guests make the most of the sun, while a heated indoor pool, sauna and steam room are ideal for cooler months. Classes in the gym, tennis and squash courts will delight sporty guests.

An array of holistic, oriental, de-stressing, anti-ageing, rejuvenating and beautifying treatments await at Myoka 5 Senses Spa. Escape here to discover an enhanced sense of wellbeing as the expert multilingual therapists ease away stress amid stylish surroundings. Whether you choose an aromatherapy facial, a stimulating hot stone massage or a luxurious full-body wrap, enjoy the revitalisation of mind, body and soul.
