The healing power of the natural spa in the region of Portorož has been known about since the 13th century, yet archaeological finds from the Greek and Roman times indicate that the area — with its long sandy beach and Mediterranean climate — was popular long before then. In medieval times, the Benedictine monks from the nearby monastery used the salty water and other natural local elements to treat rheumatic diseases.

The recently refurbished resort of LifeClass Hotels & Spa overlooks the Gulf of Piran and offers an holistic approach to healing and relaxation. This luxurious resort, which uses a thalassotherapy tradition that's more than 800 years old, is renowned for having rooms with fantastic views, decorated in a modern Mediterranean style. Breathe in the scent of pine trees while doing yoga and catching the sun's first rays on Meduza beach, which is accessible throughout the year.

The resort's Salina Restaurant is one of the best in the region, serving high-end dishes such as seasoned sea urchin in an elegant dining room, which is decorated with white mural art and was announced as the winner of a Red Dot Award for design in 2017. A special touch to the whole dining expeirence is prepared with local ingredients and served on culinary tree sculpture. After a fine meal, try resort's signature deserts such as the 'Gifts of Istria' cake. The combination of fresh cottage cheese, figs and a brandy, served with orange flavoured ice cream, refosco caviar and egg foam with rosemary essence is delicious and guaranteed to blow guests' mind.

Relax by swimming in the thermal sea water, rich with minerals such as magnesium, calcium and natrium, and restore energy by enjoying the heated sea water in the modern Sea Spa.

Guests should definitely try the same treatments Benedictine monks used in the 13th century. Choose from the rich offer of healing treatments using local natural elements, or get pampered by ayurvedic treatments, oriental massages, beauty programmes and anti-ageing face treatments as well. The goal is always the same — health, wellbeing and rejuvenation of body and mind.
