Forget tins of beans and fiddly gas stoves. As glamping has reinvented camping, so has it reinvented camp food. There are now luxe sites where your pitch not only comes with a barbecue and fire pit but an on-site kitchen garden, farm shop, gourmet feast nights or delicious dishes delivered direct to your yurt, cabin or treehouse. Here are some of the UK’s tastiest retreats to try.

1. Fforest Farm, Ceredigion

Fforest Farm — a rustic-chic hodgepodge of shacks, lofts and domes scattered along the River Teifi — is as renowned for its food as its gorgeous glamping. Drink and be merry at Y Bwthyn (Fforest’s onsite pub), dine at the convivial lodge, spend time in the vegetable garden or book a seat in the barn for one of Fforest’s local-produce-packed eight-course feasts. Domes (sleeping two, plus two children) from £260 for two nights.

2. Ham Hideaway, Kent

At this new high-end enclave of shepherds’ huts and roomy safari tents you can experience the joys of camping alongside the glamour of a five-star hotel. A 15-minute drive from the coastal town of Deal, accommodation comes with a private chef and butler service. Opt for a prosecco afternoon tea on arrival, breakfast in bed or a three-course meal served on your deck. Huts (sleeping two) from £195 per night.

The on-site honesty deli is packed with everything from locally produced meat, cheese and chutneys to homemade Mad Dogs cider. Don’t feel like cooking? Order ‘van service’ to have wholesome homecooked food, such as curries, chillies and crumbles, brought to your door. Vans (sleeping two) from £170 for two nights.

4. Abbey Farm, Yorkshire

In the heart of the North York Moors, Abbey Farm is the producer of artisan Rosedale Goat’s Cheese made from its herd of Smock Alley goats. It’s also home to two luxe shepherds’ huts, complete with antique French bedsteads, private showers and heated gazebos. Guests can buy goat meat to barbecue, as well as breakfast hampers featuring goat’s milk yogurt and cheese; and cheese-making courses run in the farmhouse kitchen. Huts (sleeping two) from £95 per night.

5. Monachyle Mhor, Perth & Kinross

Foodies flock to loch-side Monachyle Mhor Hotel for its award-winning restaurant, where outstanding dishes are made from ingredients sourced from its own garden, farm and the nearby hills. Glamping options in the hotel grounds — a 1950s wagon, a cosy bothy and a modern treehouse —provide quirky accommodation, spectacular Highlands views and easy access to the hotel’s dining delights. Monachyle Mhor has its own bakery and chippy in nearby Callander, too. Wagon (sleeping four) from £145 per night.
