TRAVEL WRITING SESSIONS

Three one-hour classes will cover everything from structuring a feature, practical advice on writing about the latest travel trends and perfecting particular writing styles. Expert National Geographic Traveller contributors will lead each masterclass.

1. How to turn your travels into travel writing
Turning your personal experience and passion into travel writing can seem like a daunting task. Specialist writers will guide you through the pros and cons of this approach, how to get the ideas from inside your head on to the page and equip you to start writing your own personal journey.

2. The nuts and bolts of a travel feature
Our experts will cover the essentials of travel writing, from how to structure a piece from your notes to beginnings and endings, using quotes and giving you the tools and techniques to put together a travel feature.

3. Travel trends and how to write about them: can we travel responsibly?
In this session our panel will consider the issue of responsible travel, with practical advice on how to write about it, why we should be writing about it, getting the best information and how to get your ideas into print or online.

TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS

The three one-hour classes are aimed at beginner- and intermediate-level travel photographers, providing expert advice and guidance, from selecting the right kit, getting started and putting together a photo story.

1. How to get started as a travel photographer
Our expert photographers will tell you how they got into the business, where you can learn, moving from different types of photography to travel, plus practical tips on pitching and publication.

2. The perfect travel photography kit
Find out how to select the best basics, what you need (and don’t need) for travel photography, and how to select specialist kit for everything from polar shoots to street photography.

3. Putting together a photo story
Get practical advice and behind-the-scenes access with our National Geographic Traveller photographers, who will give an insight into the process of putting a photo story together from start to finish: from how to shoot to a brief to deciding what images to submit, and discussing the final product.
