Green Sea Turtles Return to the Ocean After a Two-Year Recovery
These two green sea turtles were recently released back into the wild after two years. Kiwa and Oscar had been found on Ninety Mile Beach in New Zealand struggling to survive. The turtles were treated for infections, dehydration and cold shock. Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life rehabilitation centre provided them care and shelter.
Recovering, the turtles gained about 33 pounds of their weight back. While their release is bittersweet for the staff, they are happy to see the turtles alive and well. Both Kiwa and Oscar were fitted with a tag to track their progress in the open ocean.
