Orphaned Sloth Bear Cub Is Playful and Healthy One Year After Rescue

Friday, 6 April

Mowgli, a rescued sloth bear, recently celebrated his first year at an Indian rescue centre. In 2017, the sloth bear cub was found in a forest in Madhya Pradesh, India. Mowgli’s mother had been killed by a trap set by poachers.

Upon rescue, a Wildlife SOS team moved the cub to a rescue facility in Agra. The traumatised cub was tended to by caretakers and slowly began to regain confidence. While visibly in good spirits, the cub can never be released back into the wild. Sloth bear cubs learn survival skills from their mother during the first two years of life.
