See How an Artist Reconstructed the Face of Brazil's First Emperor

The face of Brazil's first emperor, Dom Pedro I, has been reconstructed for the first time in 3D. Scientists, working with a graphic designer, constructed the image by studying a photo of Dom Pedro's real skull. His facial features were created using scientific calculations, while his hair and dress were based on paintings of the ruler.

A forensic evaluation of the skull revealed the emperor had a broken nose, which was never fixed. Royal descendants report that the reconstruction bares a striking similarity to their family line.
