Watch The Incredible Sport of Mounted Archery

The ancient practice of mounted archery is making a comeback in Indonesia. Archery on horseback has origins in the Mongolian and Ottoman empires but is now becoming more popular in this region. During the Iron Age, mounted archery replaced the use of chariots popular in the Bronze Age.

The skill is utilised in activities such as hunting, protecting livestock, and of course battle. Today, the sport attracts both men and women, as one group works to break down gender stereotypes.
