The August issue of National Geographic goes on sale today and this month’s Guest Editor is wildlife expert and TV presenter Chris Packham. Other notable British figures announced to mark the 130th anniversary of the world’s most read magazine include Tim Peake, Mary McCartney and Katie Piper, following on from issues in collaboration with Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Dame Ellen MacArthur, Sir Mo Farah, Archie Panjabi and Brian Cox.

Working with Global Editor-in-Chief Susan Goldberg and the editorial team, the Guest Editors are exploring themes close to their heart. In his Guest Editor’s Letter, Packham tells us that Caring Is Not Enough. We Must Act as he focuses on the loss of biodiversity across the globe. But he also insists that “the August issue isn’t just a catalogue of doom and depression", featuring a story on a program that aims to protect rare animals from extinction, as well as incredible images.

Photographer Mary McCartney said of her upcoming collaboration, "National Geographic is the benchmark, the publication that has consistently set the bar for photographic excellence. To be asked to join the team as guest editor and to contribute photographically is a milestone for me and a challenge I can’t wait to meet."

The final Guest Editor of 2018 for the December issue will be announced later this year.
