Visiting ports for long periods can result in unexpected passengers. Two pigeon chicks were found aboard the HMS Queen Elizabeth in a nest without their mother shortly after it set sail from Portsmouth for the U.S. The pigeons – collectively nicknamed the ‘carrier pigeons’ – were cared for then returned to the UK aboard a supplies helicopter to RSPCA.
