The plains spadefoot toad is found in the Midwest, from Canada to Mexico.
Cleared-and-stained royal threadfin (Pentanemus quinquarius) photographed under fluorescent light.
Cleared-and-stained Macklot's python (Liasis mackloti) coiled in glycerin-gelatin matrix and photographed under fluorescent light.
Cleared-and-stained blue-lipped tree lizard (Plica umbra) posed in glycerin-gelatin matrix and photographed under fluorescent light.
The yellowchin sculpin is found off the coast of Central California south through Baja California. Without tissue, the skeletons of fish and other animals can be limp and difficult to pose, but gelatin holds them in place and washes clean off when the photo shoot is done.
