Seagulls land on a whale being towed into port by a Hvalur ship.
An observer watches the work from behind a fence. Whaling is largely an “invisible industry,” with most of the action happening out at sea, says activist Arne Feuerhahn.
At the whaling station at Midsandur, north of Reykjavík, Hvalur employees butcher a fin whale, removing its skin, blubber, internal organs, and other parts in a process that takes up to two and half hours.
A Perseid meteor crosses the night sky over a stork sitting on its nest in the village of Yatskovichy in Russia on August 13, 2018.
