Great migrations, dashing stampedes and captured gazes of all kinds: your photos of the week

Photographs have the power to evoke wonder and whimsy in those who view them. This week I found myself enamoured with images featuring fun layers, pops of colour, and quiet moments that could have easily been overlooked. The Your Shot photographers always show us bits of the world we wouldn’t have seen ourselves each week.

While walking around Toronto, Gary Zeng saw an owl spying on him. I can’t get enough of the extreme layers Zeng used to emphasise the owl’s gaze as it watched him through the trees. I love when a photograph moves me to laughter. It’s a pure joy that I hope others share.

Victoria Pickering also crafted a photograph around a single small moment. Her photograph of a sailor quietly looking up is simple and striking. This one fleeting glance has a gentle sense of pride that permeates the layers of fabric and fellow sailors.

I found myself full of wonder and curiosity as I curated these moments from around the world shared by the Your Shot photo community. It’s my pleasure to have the opportunity to do this each week. Don’t forget to slow down and keep looking for those little moments we might ordinarily miss.

Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas looks at daily uploads from Your Shot, starting each day by sifting through thousands of photographs. This series is a selection of her favorites from the past week.
