Best of the travel blogs: April 2015
We pick out our three favourite blogs this month, which include entries on conserving ring-tailed lemurs and hostelling's future in luxury hostels
'Luxury hostels' are the future of hostelling
I won't call it Poshtel, like the 2015 trends report by World Travel Market. I've done my research with travellers. Nobody gets the word 'posh' outside native English-speaking countries. So please. Don't call them Poshtels. I'll stick to 'Luxury Hostels'. It's a nice oxymoron. Over the last 18 months, the trend has become mainstream thanks to Generator Hostels, who have opened some stunners in Berlin, Barcelona and Venice. budgettraveller.org
What to do when you lose your money
You're wandering through exotic streets, happily soaking up the atmosphere. Your stomach rumbles and your thoughts turn to snacks. You reach for your wallet but it's not there! Your stomach stops rumbling and starts churning. In desperation, you search your pockets and empty your bag. Your wallet has gone! Losing your wallet and money can be devastating. A friendly place becomes scary and intimidating, especially with a strange language in the mix. goatsontheroad.com
Conserving ring-tailed lemurs
I see the flick of a tail, ringed in black and white. Then I see the lemur, climbing over the tree branches to pick some orange berries. He briefly turns towards us, staring with wide, hypnotic eyes, before leaping away. Then I see another ring-tailed lemur. And another. A whole troop of lemur catta was around us. In Madagascar's Anja Reserve, ring-tailed lemurs are everywhere. Which is incredible because, less than 20 years ago, they were in danger of disappearing forever. greenglobaltravel.com
